MILLCREEK, UTAH — Darlene McDonald, candidate for Utah’s 4th Congressional District, praised the recent brief filed by 19 scholars of Mormon history. They argue President Donald Trump’s attempts to follow through on his campaign promise to ban Muslims harken back to a time when Mormons were similarly demonized and persecuted by the United States Government.

“Protecting minority religious groups from persecution is not only baked into the Utah story, it is fundamental to the American story,” Darlene said. “This move by 19 scholars of Mormon history should serve as a wake up call to the President and anyone who thinks that religious freedom is not under attack today.”

“I echo these historians’ call for the courts to “ensure that history does not repeat itself,” she added.
